4 Ways to Make Your Phone Childproof

October 9, 2014

You probably spent a lot of money on your phone. And while today’s smartphones are capable of doing some really remarkable things, even the most advanced phone can get ruined in an instant in the hands of a child. Thankfully, there are some simple steps you can take to childproof your phone and help keep it in good working condition even around the most destructive children.

  • Get a quality case—Phone cases come in all types these days, from cheapo ones that offer little actual protection to high quality, waterproof cases that are virtually indestructible. If you have a child who will have access to your phone, you’ll want to invest in the latter. Get a strong case that will protect your phone if it’s dropped, thrown, put in water, etc.

  • Use a screen protector—Let’s face it, you don’t want your kid’s grubby hands smearing all over your beautiful touchscreen. Touchscreens attract fingerprints like a vacuum attracts dirt. So, do yourself a favor and slap on a screen protector to keep your phone from getting smudged, scratched, and slaughtered.

  • Turn off purchasing options—Don’t be one of those parents who gets blindsided by an enormous cellphone bill containing dozens of in-game purchases and app downloads you knew nothing about. Turn off buying options so that you child can enjoy playing games on your phone without mistakenly purchasing things without your knowledge.

  • Set a password—Don’t want your child sharing embarrassing photos with all of your friends on Facebook? Afraid he might delete an important email? Set a password on your device to keep your child from unlocking it without your permission. This is the best way to protect your sensitive data on your phone.
